Concept
We follow 19-year-old Omar, whom we meet at the intersection of life transitions: moving away from his home country to NYC to pursue his dream of being a musician; learning English; shouldering the hopes, dreams and expectations of his family, and grappling with his identity.
Artist Stament
Coming out has been one of the most challenging periods in my life. I was young, naive, and very ambitious.
I was 17 years old when I first moved to the US, challenging everything I was. I decided to take a leap and follow my heart and my passion.
Living by myself in a different world, with a different language and a different culture was overwhelming and scary. I found myself navigating a new city without any kind of supervision. I'd get up, go to school, get to work, and daydream about life making movies. Slowly, I started to understand there was something different about myself, something that was deep down and needed to get out.
This was the hardest part; this awakening, this need to fully embrace who I was for me to feel safe under my own skin. I met a guy and through that guy, I met myself.
